Sri Lankan Common Myna

I previously blogged on the common myna we saw in Uzbekistan. It has a brown body, black hooded head, and bare yellow patch behind the eye. The bill and legs are bright yellow.

There are two subspecies, one of which is only found in Sri Lanka (Acridotheris tristis melanosternus). The Sri Lankan subspecies is darker than the other, nominate, subspecies and has a larger yellow cheek patch.
The Sri Lankan subspecies is so much darker that it almost looks purple. It is much prettier.

  1. I love that gold eye-patch that looks like an extension of the beak.
