I love roadrunners. We see them on Overcrest occasionally on our way to church. They seem to be in perpetual motion. I have seen them fly short distances, but mostly I just see them running. They're like a good long-distance runner, consistently fast, but not sprinting. The one below was seen on the grounds of the Living Desert in Palm Desert.

Much less commonly, roadrunners can be seen standing, usually on a fence. The picture below is blurry, but often the sight of a roadrunner is blurry.

The next roadrunner was photographed in a nest in Jim Coffin's back yard in Redlands.

While we watched this young roadrunner, one of its parents showed up with a lizard in its mouth, apparently trying to coax the youngster out of the nest.
