Globemallow has been a consistent presence in my visits to the desert. It is not ever-present, but I generally see at least a few bushes each time I go. It is on the way out now, but I did see one plant with flowers on it last Saturday.
There are many species and the flowers come in some different colors. All I've seen is orange, but it can also be white, pink, purple, bluish or apricot.
In the right light it can glow beautifully.
This is another plant with a fantastic name and amazing resilience. (I'd love to know how it got its name.)
