Chia

Chia, although present, has not been particularly visible in my desert wanderings this year. Only one particular week, April 25th, did I take any photos of their flowers. This past week, May 16th, I took some of a clump that was past prime.
A clump of chia among other desert plants.
They are horribly ugly from a distance and fascinatingly beautiful close-up, particularly when blooming with small flowers.

In the age of coronavirus, they look amazingly like the coronavirus.

  1. It boggles my mind to think that chia seeds are harvested from these plants. It must take an acre to create a 2-oz bottle.
