Green Heron - Salton Sea

The green heron has been one of the more elusive herons for me, and probably because of that, I like them a lot. I'd only seen a few of them, all in Florida, until this year. I saw one in California off Vendel Road at the Sonny Bono Salton Sea NWR in January of this year, my second time there.

Beautiful green feathers outlined in gold.
Today I saw my second one in California, also on Vendel Road, but several miles away near Bannister Road. It was the first juvenile green heron I've ever seen. I wasn't initially sure what it was. My first thought was a juvenile black-crowned night heron. iNaturalist helped me identify it as a green heron.
