Atlantic Puffin - Iceland

I've posted previously on the Atlantic puffin from an excursion I took off Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
Puffin in front of burrow.
We recently took a one hour small boat tour out of Reykjavik Harbor, Iceland, and circled a couple of islands in Faxafloi Bay, including Akurey Island and Lundy Island. Our tour was at 3:30 p.m. and prime puffin viewing time is in the morning before 11:00 a.m. and in the evening after 6:00 p.m, which is when they are most likely to be in or near their burrows. In the afternoon they are often at sea where it is more difficult to get close to them.

This was a disappointing trip. We only saw a puffin or two in front of burrows, a few standing on Akurey Island and were only able to get relatively close to a few swimming on the water.

  1. For so few opportunities, you got some great shots.
