I've seen several huge northern desert iguanas near Corn Springs, in the Chuckwalla Mountains, recently. On May 23rd I saw the desert iguana below basking on a rock off the side of the dirt road. I saw another one earlier in the day near the beginning of the road which scampered quickly away.
On June 13th I was at Corn Springs again and saw the desert iguana below also basking on a rock off the side of the dirt road. I got out of the car and slowly approached, taking photos as I went along. I got within a few feet of it before it bolted for a bush.
I did a post on the desert iguana back in 2011 and actually caught one and kept it as a pet before letting it go. They are extremely fast.
The close-up of his skin in the final photo is really cool. What beautiful colors and patterns.
