African Jacana

We had some great views of the African jacana in the Mabamba Swamp near Entebbe, Uganda, part of Lake Victoria. I'd seen an African jacana previously in Botswana, but only one that I recall, and  I don't remember it having as much light blue on the head. See my post on June 12, 2018. The light blue is what really stood out to me as we saw them in Uganda. I was struck by how beautiful they are. We were also able to get closer to them in the Mabamba Swamp.

Here are some photos I took and also photos by my granddaughter that were better than mine. She was able to capture the long spindly feet that are so fascinating. We saw lots of them, but I recall being frustrated because as I was angling for a good angle, they would invariable go behind a plant or in some other way obstruct the view.
This photo and the next two are by my granddaughter. The first two capture the wonderfully long feet.

Range from Birds of the World. It is found pretty much all over Sub-Saharan Africa where there are wetlands.
