Lesser Antillean Bullfinch

The Lesser Antillean bullfinch is found on the Lesser Antilles islands of the Caribbean. It is small with blackish or gray plumage, a red throat and red eyebrows and a short thick bill.
Lesser Antillean Bullfinch. Some have red undertail coverts like this one.
Its red eyebrows can be seen in this photo.
We encountered it at our table while eating outside at Nelson's Dockyard on the southeastern coast of Antigua.
We encountered several more outside a bakery nearby. I fed them part of a turnover. The female has "warm gray" plumage and reddish brown wings, tail and undertail coverts.
Outside in the sun the feathers look much more black and the red eyebrows stand out more.
A female.

  1. Pretty dramatic difference between the male and female. I do like the red eyebrows.

  2. Such pretty birds, like a wren dressed up for a party.
