I previously posted on reddish egrets I saw in Florida, here, and reddish egrets I saw in Texas, here. As I review those posts I'm reminded how rare they are, only about 1,500 to 2,000 nesting pairs in the U.S., most of them in Texas. I had the privilege of seeing another reddish egret in California at Bolsa Chica near Huntington Beach in January 2022. As are there nature, this one provided quite a show:
I love the last few photos showing the feathers draped over the bird's back like a fancy feather boa or an exotic fur coat.
