Earlier this month I saw a Cassin's kingbird, a bird I've never identified before, in Live Oak Canyon in Redlands, California, which is near our home. Adults have a gray head and upper breast, a pale (whitish) throat and a yellow lower breast.
I have been surprised to regularly find new birds I've never seen before, like this one, one at a time, in our canyon. It gives me a greater appreciation for this area that I call home.
Great metaphor for life--sometimes we don't see things until we know how to look for them.
