I had a work commitment that was taking me to Trinity College, part of the University of Toronto. We decided to make a little vacation out of it.
On Thursday, September 27, 2018, we left LAX on Westjet at 11:00 p.m. and arrived in Toronto (YYZ) the next morning at 6:46 a.m. We rented a car at Alamo, checked into the Alt Hotel Toronto Airport, and drove into downtown Toronto for a meeting at Trinity College. After our meeting we were given a tour of the campus, then ate a lunch nearby at a restaurant near the Royal Ontario Museum, also near Trinity College. I had poutine with breaded fish, which was unusual but not particularly good. Afterwards we visited the Royal Ontario Museum. I particularly enjoyed the sections dealing with rocks and minerals and animals. For dinner, we continued our search for unusual poutine. At Prohibition Gastrohouse we tried their haute poutine, poutine with duck and duck gravy. At Utopia Cafe and Grill we had poutine with smoked lamb and bree cheese and a burrito with smoked lamb and bree. We even went to McDonald's and tried poutine there which was actually pretty good.

Saturday, September 29, we left the Alt Hotel Toronto Airport for the Bruce Peninsula which is northwest of Toronto and juts into Lake Huron (I have a thing for peninsulas in the Great Lakes, I've also been to the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula in Lake Superior and the Door Peninsula in Lake Michigan).
We drove nearly 175 miles to Bruce Peninsula National Park and took a loop trail hike to see the Grotto, a beautiful section of the shoreline along Lake Huron. On our hike back we spotted a common loon on Cyprus Lake, a first for me. We drove into Tobermory at the end of the peninsula and ate some mediocre fish and chips at Shipwreck Lee's. Then that night we stayed at Dreamland II Bed and Breakfast, located at 1142 Dyer's Bay Road, at the edge of Dyer's Bay on the east side of the peninsula.

Sunday, September 30, after a nice breakfast, we took side roads on the eastern side of the Bruce Peninsula and saw some beautiful country. We drove through small towns like Cape Chin, Lion's Head, Hope Bay and Colpoy's Bay. We drove back into Toronto and drove by the LDS temple, then drove to the Kensington area and visited the Kensington Market, probably my favorite street market anywhere. Then we had a spectacular meal at Pow Wow Cafe. Late afternoon we flew out of Toronto (YYZ) at 6:00 p.m. on Westjet and arrived at LAX about 8:20 p.m.

We packed a lot of fun into a couple of days. Loved this trip.
