Red-Faced Warbler

The red-faced warbler is a bird I really wanted to see in southeastern Arizona. It has a black band on the crown that extends down the sides of the head and reminds me of an old friar. A truly spectacular and distinctive looking bird. I saw it up Miller Canyon in the Huachuca Mountains.

Range from Birds of the World. This range looks like the ranges of lots of other birds we saw. Heavy in Central America and Mexico and up into Arizona and New Mexico.

  1. What a fantastic sighting! The Red-faced Warbler is one of those birds that looks almost unreal when you finally see it in person. That bold facial pattern really does give it a unique "monk-like" appearance. Miller Canyon in the Huachuca Mountains is such a great spot for birding, and moments like this make the hike completely worth it. Thanks for sharing your experience—it definitely moved the Red-faced Warbler higher on my own birding wishlist!
