Kandy Lake is an artificial lake in Kandy, central Sri Lanka, which has a 2.1 mile perimeter and a maximum depth of 59 feet. It was built in 1807 next to the Temple of the Tooth. Sanjay, our guide, dropped us off at the perimeter and had us walk around it, because it has a lot of wildlife in and around it. We then met him at the Temple of the Tooth which we visited.
We saw the following wildlife in our short walk around the lake:
Indian jungle crow |
House crow |
Little egret |
Black-crowned night heron |
Immature |
Indian pond heron |
Spot-billed pelican |
Indian black turtle |
That Indian jungle crow has the biggest beak. It's the Jimmy Durante of crows.
