Houndfish

The houndfish, also called the crocodile needlefish, can get up to five feet long. They have a stout cylindrical body, dark blue backs, silver/white sides and a plain white belly. The caudal (tail) fin is deeply forked. They feed mainly on smaller fish. The beak of the houndfish can cause injuries (in 2010 an ocean kayaker got a collapsed lung when the beak of a jumping houndfish stabbed her in the back).
These houndfish, in the foreground of the sea turtle, were in Carlisle Bay, Barbados.
