There are four subspecies. It is found from Ethiopia down through much of Kenya, then down in much of southern Africa. It feeds by hopping along the ground looking for seeds and insects, and particularly harvester termites. We found this particular weaver when we stopped at Buffalo Spring in Buffalo Springs National Reserve in northern Kenya. There were many nests in the trees and they were hopping around on the ground looking for food.
