The Rocky Mountain elk below were photographed in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. I've also seen them in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, outside of Jackson, Wyoming, near Hardware Ranch in Utah and in the wild in the Uintahs of northeastern Utah.
A calf elk. The wild elk I saw in the Uinta Mountains was on a backpacking trip as a youth. I saw just a fleeting glimpse. 
I have had an opportunity to eat elk meat a number of times and it is very lean.
I would like to have an opportunity to have more experiences with wild elk.
