Silver-Throated Tanager

The silver-throated tanager male is yellow with a silver-white throat and a black stripe which borders it on the cheek. The back has black streaking and the wings and tail also have black and green. It has a black bill and gray feet. Females are the same colors, but have duller and greener plumage. There are three subspecies. We saw the nominate subspecies which is found in the Andes of Colombia, western Ecuador, northeastern Peru and Panama.

In addition to the areas where the subspecies we saw is found, it is also found in Costa Rica.
Silver-throated tanager range from Wikipedia.
We saw only one at Montezuma Rainforest Lodge in Colombia at a feeder at the lodge.

  1. I love tanagers, and one reason is because they are usually relatively easy to see because of their intense colorization.
