Ruddy Ground Dove

I saw a number of ruddy ground doves at Tinamu Reserve in Colombia, primarily where grain was thrown out on the ground and they would congregate with other birds.

They are found close to both the east and west coasts of Mexico, down through most of Central America and then about two-thirds of South America. They can sometimes be found in the far end of Southern California and southern Texas.

Males are prettier than females. They have a pale gray head and neck, rufous upperparts, black spots on the wings, a black-edged tail and paler underparts.

Females are more gray-brown than rufous and have less contrast between the head and body than the males.
