I saw my first Allen's hummingbird on November 19, 2022 at Irvine Ranch Water Department San Joaquin Marsh ("IRWD") and did a post on it here. I was at IRWD again yesterday and saw three more Allen's hummingbirds and got better photos of them. In particular, I was able to get the neck of two of them in reflective sunlight which turns it from black into a luminous red that shines like the sun when it catches the light just right. They also had more bronze green on the back than the first one and I was able to photograph the narrow tail feathers of one that spread its tail. My photos follow:
So tiny and yet so beautiful. So few people will see and appreciate its beauty, and yet the beauty is there.
