Katz's Delicatessan - New York City

We are getting ready to head back to NYC to visit our son again. It has been over a year since we visited in early January 2019 and I'm reminded that I have not posted on a bunch of food we had on that trip. In particular, I'm finding I want to go back to Katz's Delicatessen, perhaps my favorite New York eating experience so far. We visited on a bitter cold evening and were sampling our way around and stopped primarily for one thing, a hybrid reuben sandwich. It is that hybrid reuben I want to have again.

The place was packed and you can tell by what people are wearing that it was cold.

The hybrid reuben was ginormous and packed with wonderful pastrami and corned beef, sauerkraut, relish and cheese on toasted rye. We also tried a straight pastrami and it wasn't as good.

We had some other traditional deli offerings, potato pancakes, sour pickles, some potato salad. But they were meh compared to the star of the show.

The potato salad was sweet and did not appear to have any other ingredients. It was like lumpy mashed potatoes.
I'm hoping to have a follow-up soon.

  1. That was one fantastic reuben. I'm happy you want to make a return visit.
