We saw several common redshanks in Bundala National Park in southern Sri Lanka in their winter plumage.
In winter plumage they are kind of grayish-brown above and whitish below. Their breeding plumage is marbled brown and a little lighter below. They have bright reddish-orange legs and a black-tipped reddish-orange bill. They show white up the back and on the wings in flight.
It is migratory, breeding in the Arctic and then spending the winter in the south.
I like that second photo. It looks like it is wearing a fancy petticoat.
