The little egret (Egretta garzetta) of Europe, Africa and Asia looks quite a bit like the snowy egret of North America.

This little egret is next to an African darter and in front of a crocodile. |
While in the Okavanga Delta of Botswana we encountered the nominate subspecies (E. g. garzetta), the western race, which has black legs and yellow feet. Its plumage is all white; it has a long, slender black bill; it has greenish/gray bare skin at the base of the lower mandible and around the eye; and the iris is yellow.
