As I indicated in my last post, we love aged Goudas. Judy has been buying the cheese lately, a very nice development. She recently brought home a nice Beemster Classic aged 18 month Gouda, then a few days later brought home a Rembrandt Extra Aged Gouda
aged for at least one year. As I noted, we previously had Old Amsterdam Premium Aged Gouda which we really loved. Rembrandt Extra Aged Gouda
was awarded the trophy for Best Continental Cheese as well as first place in the Best Dutch Cheese class at the 2002 Nantwich International Cheese Show in the United Kingdom. In 2004, Rembrandt was named World Champion at the World Championship Cheese Contest in Wisconsin.
Rembrandt is made by K. H. de Jong, established in 1831 in North Holland. We found the Rembrandt to have nice crystals which add body, flavor and crunch to the cheese.
It has a wonderful complex, deep flavor. We compared it several times head to head with the Beemster Classic, which is aged about six months longer. On one occasion we preferred the Beemster and on another occasion we preferred the Rembrandt. They were pretty close, both wonderful. I would love to compare it with the Old Amsterdam, which was named best Aged Gouda out of 39 entrants at the 2010 World Championship Cheese Contest. I believe Old Amsterdam would win the comparison, but that is just a guess until an actual comparison is made. All three cheeses are wonderful and worthy of space in the refrigerator.
This is the best cheese in the world because it has a god texture and taste, it's so soft, I could to eat a big ball of gouda cheese.
ReplyDeleteThis is also my very favorite!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely my favorite Gouda cheese. I could eat the whole wedge by myself. It's somewhat hard to find in store, so I usually buy some from https://www.gourmet-food.com/. It takes a couple days to arrive but the wait is definitely worth it.
