Desert wishbone bush

(Mirabilis laevis var. retrorsa, synoymous with Mirabilis bigelovii) is a shrub in the four o' clock family

that grows to 30 inches in height.

The stems branch to form green "wishbones"

and are hairy, weak and sticky. The leaves are green, glandular-hairy, opposite, and oval to kidney-shaped.

The flowers are funnel-shaped,

white to pale pink, and have rounded, ruffled lobes and up-curved stamens.

It blooms at night and the flowers wilt by late morning.
